Granada 0-1 Real Betis: Betis make a winning return to La Liga thanks to a late Ruben Castro header

Los Carmenes, Granada
Castro 87

Real Betis started their season with an away win in Granada after a close encounter between the two promoted sides.

In a tight first half, Granada’s best chance fell to Diego Mainz, whose powerful header from Abel’s corner was saved superbly by the fingertips of Casto. Betis pressed forward as the half wore on and Ruben Castro went close, as did Mario.

Betis had the better of the few chances in the second half with winger Salva Sevilla being involved in most of them. His free kick was deflected onto the bar and he was unlucky not to get a penalty after Manuel Lucena seemed to foul him after being caught in possession. He was substituted in the 86th minute for Jonathan Pereira, who almost instantly capitalised on a Lucena mistake by crossing for Ruben Castro, who headed into an empty net to give Betis all three points.

Granada (4-3-3): Roberto; Nyom, Mainz, Pamarot (Martins 46), Siqueira; Rico, Lucena, Abel (Yebda 46); Jaime (Mollo 67), Ighalo, Benitez

Real Betis (4-2-3-1): Casto; Chica, Mario, Dorado, Nacho; Benat, Iriney; Badillo (Molina 51), Sevilla (Pereira 86), Montero (Martinez 90); Castro

Did you know…This is the first time Granada have been beaten in their last 18 matches at home to other Andalucian sides in the top flight (via @optajose).
