Friday 09 December 2011

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that centre-back Nemanja Vidic will be out for the remainder of the season after rupturing a cruciate knee ligament, The Guardian has revealed.

The Serbian suffered the injury during United’s Champions League fixture against Basel and X-rays have shown the extent of the injury and it has been confirmed that the 30-year-old faces a nine month layoff.

Ferguson says the injury is as bad as expected and will be a huge blow for the team: “It's not unexpected but it's still bad news. We thought it was a bad one and unfortunately he's out for the season. He sees the specialist on Monday to work out the progress of when he has his operation. It won't be immediately as we have to let the swelling come down. It's a blow.”
