Norwich vs Newcastle - Match preview and prediction

By Bryan Waters

Saturday 10 December 2011

Alan Pardew celebrates a year in charge of Newcastle United by taking his troops down to East Anglia for a tricky fixture with Norwich City.

Pardew has led Newcastle back up the table and they were third in the league at one point. Fixtures against Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City in their last three games have halted their unbeaten start and Newcastle have only picked up one point from the available nine. Newcastle have defensive woes with injuries to Steven Taylor and Mike Williamson accompanied with a doubtful problem for captain Fabricio Coloccini. Midfielders Danny Guthrie and Cheik Tiote are also injured, but Jonas Gutierrez returns following suspension. Newcastle were beaten 3-0 at home to Chelsea last weekend, but suffered at the hands of bad luck and will not be disheartened by the performance.

Norwich boss Paul Lambert has done an impressive job with the Canaries and their home form has been particularly fantastic. Only Arsenal and West Brom have been victorious and with 16 points on the board already, Norwich are looking up the table rather than down to relegation. Zak Whitbread could make his return from a hamstring injury, but Lambert remains without Elliot Ward and Ritchie De Laet in defence. Norwich were resoundingly thumped by Manchester City 5-1 last weekend and they will be looking for a more positive result at Carrow Road.

The Canaries will fancy themselves at home, but with Newcastle's close spirit and togetherness as a squad, they can cause an upset at any side in the league. Norwich should see this one through thanks to the Magpies' injury worries and get all three points.
