Bolton vs Aston Villa - Match preview and prediction
Saturday 10 December 2011
Two sides struggling for goals face each other at the Reebok Stadium as Bolton Wanderers host Aston Villa.
Owen Coyle's side have only scored once in their last three outings and were resoundly beaten by Tottenham at White Hart Lane last weekend. Gary Cahill's red card in that game has been rescinded and he is in line to start against his former side Villa. Nigel Reo-Coke, another ex-Villa player, is a doubt for the fixture with a hamstring problem and David Wheater serves the second of a four-game ban against Alex McLeish's side. Bolton have lost six of their last seven home fixtures and have conceded 34 goals already this season.
Alex McLeish's side will be without influential goalkeeper Shay Given, who suffered a hamstring injury in last Saturday's loss to Manchester United. Brad Guzan will make his first league start for the club and is expected to preserve a good record from Villa, who have only conceded 18 goals so far this season. McLeish has had no attacking threat and a 1-0 defeat to the Premier League champions saw them go three games without scoring a goal. Midfielder Jermaine Jenas will also be out for six months after suffering an Achilles injury.
Villa have the attacking power to hurt Bolton at the Reebok, but they must ensure Gabriel Agbonlahor and Darren Bent are on form. Bolton will be desperate for another home win and should just sneak out of the game with all three points.
