Norwich vs Tottenham - Match preview and prediction

By Bryan Waters

Tuesday 27 December 2011

Carrow Road hosts the late kick-off as third placed Tottenham look to close the gap on the top two to seven points with a win over Norwich.

Spurs have been fantastic so far this season and have only lost once in their last six games. That defeat against Stoke snapped an 11 game unbeaten run for Harry Redknapp’s side, who have improved from their poor start to the season. Spurs drew 1-1 midweek with Chelsea at White Hart Lane and will be content with third place as they head into the New Year. A favourable festive period awaits Spurs with a game against Swansea in South Wales and then their first game of 2012 against West Brom following this trip to East Anglia. Redknapp is without Rafael van der Vaart after the Dutchman suffered a hamstring injury against Chelsea. Spurs will give late fitness tests to Jermain Defoe and Younes Kaboul on hamstring problems before deciding if they can play a part in the game against an improving Norwich.

Paul Lambert has got his Norwich side playing fantastically well. They earned a point against Wolves at Molineux in midweek and have been good on the road, picking up points at Liverpool and Everton as well. Norwich have been unbeaten in their last three following a 5-1 stuffing at the Etihad Stadium to league leaders Manchester City. Norwich have also won four times at home and Spurs will find it difficult against a noisy Norwich crowd. Lambert is without Kyle Naughton with suspension, but would have been unavailable anyway due to a stipulation in his loan deal from Tottenham. Ritchie de Laet returned to training this week, but is probably unavailable to face Spurs.

Norwich forward Grant Holt is in good form with three goals in his last four matches and Spurs will have to keep the powerful striker quiet if they want a victory. Spurs are favourites for the win and should capture all three points from Carrow Road.
