Bassett praises Blackburn boss Steve Kean

By Bryan Waters

Saturday 07 January 2012

Dave Bassett has spoken about his managers of the season and has praised Blackburn Rovers boss Steve Kean for his endeavour and hard work.

The Blackburn boss enjoyed two good results away at Liverpool and Manchester United just after Christmas, but saw his side lose at home to Stoke last time out. Rovers fans called for Kean to be sacked once again at Ewood Park, but Bassett believes that the Scotsman should be given more time with the squad. Blackburn are still in the relegation zone and Bassett believes that if Blackburn did not have as many injuries, they would be in a better position.

Bassett said: ‘Steve Kean deserves a mention because he has put up with a hell of a lot. They are down the bottom, but he has been completely unfairly criticised. He has kept going through a load of injuries and no manager deserves to endure what he has been through, whatever you think about him. He’s working hard for Blackburn and the people who have criticised him have done their club no favours at all’.

During his managerial career spanning from 1981 to 2008, Bassett managed a variety of sides from Wimbledon to Leicester City. Praise was also reserved for Stoke City boss Tony Pulis, Everton manager David Moyes and Roberto Mancini at the helm of league leaders Manchester City.

To talk about Kean in terms of "Manager of the Season" is grotesque in the extreme. I cannot believe the extent of cronyism in football. Difficult times to be a Rover when you are surrounded by lunatics everywhere. Is Robbie Savage the only sane pundit?

Bassett - stop talking complete and utter RUBBISH. You know NOTHING and care even less about the plite of Blackburn Rovers. Our league position has very little to do with a few injuries - every team has them. Steve Kean is completely out of his depth and the fact that we havnt kept a clean sheet under him for nearly 9 months (yes NINE months shows this). He hasnt been helped by Venkys - true, but then again he is only managing the club because he is their yes man and lacky, not on merit. 100% of Rovers season ticket holders want Kean and Venkys out of our club - or does the paying customers wishes not matter to the pandered mass of "football cronies" where anyone and everyone within their own little ranks can do no wrong. And any fan from another club feeling sorry for Kean - ask yourself this - if he was at your club (8 wins in 41 league games) would you not feel the same way as us Rovers fans ?
