Johnson wary of Bale threat

Sunday 22 January 2012

Manchester City winger Adam Johnson has admitted that his side have to be careful with the threat that Tottenham winger Gareth Bale holds, mcfc.co.uk reports. Spurs face City at the Etihad Stadium in a massive game for both side's title ambitions.

The 22 year old has been in good form for City so far this season, but has not seen the same first-team opportunities as his hopes would desire. Bale has been scintillating in recent seasons and has been touted for a potential signing by City as they look to build a superb squad who can challenge for the title. Any move for Bale could see Johnson's time at City cut short and he is once again on the bench for today's lunchtime clash. Johnson is content with life at the Etihad Stadium and wants his side to stop Bale if they want to beat Spurs today.

Johnson said: Everyone could see what he could do on the world stage last season in the Champions League. His pace, his ability to run at people and his fitness are all top quality, and he's a big part of what is a great team to watch. It's up to us to stop players like Bale, Lennon and others. We should concentrate on ourselves, what we can all do as a team and individuals. Hopefully, they'll be worrying about us and other top players'.

The City winger also insists that their 5-1 victory over Spurs at White Hart Lane early in the season will have no effect on the game at the Etihad Stadium today. City have a 100% record at the Etihad Stadium in the league this season and will be looking to hold that against one of their main title rivals.
