Ferguson backs Redknapp for England job

By Bryan Waters

Friday 10 February 2012

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes that Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is the best person suited for the England job, The Telegraph reports.

Redknapp is being widely tipped to replace Fabio Capello after the Italian resigned as England manager on Wednesday night. The United boss has heaped praise on Tottenham’s style of play already this season, stating that Spurs could win the title. Now, Ferguson has insisted that Redknapp is the right man to lead England to success at this summer’s European Championships.

Ferguson said: ‘There is no doubt Harry Redknapp is the best man. He has the experience and personality and knowledge of the game. He has changed the fortunes of every club he has been at. He is the right choice. You should try to get the best man with the best qualities. A young manager has no chance’.

Ferguson himself tried international management with Scotland back in 1986 for the World Cup in Mexico following the death of Jock Stein. The United boss was still Aberdeen manager at the time and has warned Redknapp over potentially keeping the Spurs and England job at the same time. United face Liverpool this weekend and Ferguson will be looking to follow up their battling draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge with all three points at Old Trafford.
