Holt defends Norwich style of play

By Stuart Campbell

Wednesday 15 February 2012

Grant Holt has insisted that Norwich are not overly reliant on playing a long-ball game in order to maintain their lofty position in the Premier League, according to BBC Sport.

The Canaries captain, who is the club’s top scorer this season with 11 goals in all competitions, commended the manner in which they recovered from a goal down against Swansea on Saturday to secure a 3-2 win, denying it was solely down to a direct style of play.

“It's been said that we're a long-ball team, it's ridiculous, we play a certain way to beat a certain side. We held [Swansea] tight, changed to the diamond [midfield formation] and tore them apart for 25 minutes,” said Holt.

During that 25-minute blitz Holt struck twice to answer the jeers directed towards him throughout the game by a section of the Swansea support, which is something he used to motivate himself. “If people want to give me abuse, as you can see, I've got broad shoulders so I can take it, I enjoy it, it spurs me on.”.
