Dalglish hails 'iconic' Liverpool trio

By Bryan Waters

Monday 20 February 2012

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish acknowledges that the club will benefit from Steven Gerrard, Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll's performances this season, Sky Sports reports.

The Reds put six past Brighton in the FA Cup fifth round on Sunday and was a significant game, as it was the first time Gerrard, Suarez and Carroll had started together. Suarez and Carroll both scored and all three are in good form ahead of next weekend's Carling Cup final with Cardiff. Liverpool have not won a trophy since 2006 and are confident they can complete a domestic cup double this season.

Dalglish praised the trio, stating: 'The three of them are fantastic footballers and they played really well today. The more any team gets iconic players like they are on the pitch, the better chance they have of being successful.'

The Liverpool manager believes that despite the quality of those three players, the squad at Anfield is still good enough and they should not be counted out of the top four this season. Dalglish said: 'We have got more than three players. The fact we have done as well as we have and that was the first time the three of them have started a match tells you how well the other boys have done. We will stand and be counted as a squad and I don't think we have done too badly this year.'
