Sagna hopeful for Arsenal run of form

Monday 27 February 2012

Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna believes that the club’s superb victory over Tottenham in the North London derby could spur them on to success, arsenal.com reports.

The Frenchman broke his leg in the North London derby at White Hart Lane earlier this season, but has returned to full fitness this month. Arsenal were in poor form after a Champions League loss in Milan and an FA Cup defeat to Sunderland, but Sagna’s header in the first half sparked their comeback from 2-0 down.

The return of the Frenchman will improve an Arsenal defence, which has been stricken with injuries all season, and Sagna insists that it took great character for the club to win the game and they will now push on to further victories.

‘It might be the beginning of something. We lost quite heavily at AC Milan, but we promised ourselves we would keep playing even if we kept losing. That is what we did. If we didn’t keep fighting, then we would have lost this game. That is the best experience as a player and as a fan’, Sagna said.

The 29 year old scored his first goal since November 2010 and admits that there was no better time for him to come up with his third Premier League strike for Arsenal.

Sagna said: ‘I wanted to score, especially because the first game away was difficult for me. I am just very, very happy, because this was a day to score’.

The Frenchman is expected to hold his place in the starting line-up when the Gunners face Liverpool in a pivotal match in their race for Champions League football next season.
