Monday 27 February 2012

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is looking to make a summer move for Sunderland playmaker Stephane Sessegnon, The Sun reports.

The Benin international has been on fire since signing for Sunderland and has particularly improved under the tutelage of boss Martin O’Neill.

Sessegnon may find the lure of European football too hard to resist, which Arsenal seem to be guaranteed to provide, either in the Champions League or Europa League. Sunderland have valued Sessegnon at £16m in the past when Liverpool were interested, but could be prepared to lower their demands.

With Tottenham also interested, Wenger will have to act fast to sign Sessegnon in the summer. Sessegnon has operated as an emergency striker this season, but Montpellier striker Olivier Giroud has called out for Wenger to sign him this summer.

Giroud has scored 16 goals so far this season and is rated at £13m by the surprise leaders of the French League. The France star himself has admitted that he would love to make the move to Arsenal and his words are a plea to Wenger for a move in the summer. Giroud would link up with fellow compatriots Bacary Sagna, Sebastien Squillaci and Francis Coquelin at the Emirates Stadium. Giroud said: ‘I like the Frenchy feel at Arsenal’.
