Tottenham recall Smith as cover for injured Walker

Tuesday 28 February 2012

Tottenham have moved to recall right-back Adam Smith from his loan spell at Leeds United to cover for the injured Kyle Walker, reports Sky Sports News.

With Walker injuring his ankle against Arsenal and having to pull out of the England squad for the friendly against the Netherlands tomorrow, he could also be a doubt for Tottenham’s next fixture against Manchester United. With this in mind, 20-year-old Smith has been recalled from his season-long loan at Leeds United.

An England U21 international, and product of Tottenham’s youth academy, Smith has had various loan spells with lower league clubs, including Milton Keynes Dons, Bournemouth, and Wycombe Wanderers. He becomes the second Tottenham player to be recalled from a loan at Leeds in as many weeks, with winger Andros Townsend being recalled last week, and promptly joining fellow Championship club Birmingham on loan for the remainder of the season.

Smith, however, is likely to remain at Spurs for the remainder of the season, with Walker’s previous cover Vedran Corluka having completed a loan move to Bayern Leverkusen in January.
