Chelsea one of three clubs chasing Walter Samuel

Wednesday 29 February 2012

Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are the three Premier League clubs considering a summer move for Inter defender Walter Samuel, according to the Sun.

The 33-year-old is out of contract at the end of this season and his agent is quoted by the newspaper as saying: “Ideally Walter would like to come to London but he will listen to all offers. The Sun add that the Argentine would command wages of £90,000 per week.

Samuel has been capped 56 times by the Argentina national side, making his last appearance in 2010, and has been with Serie A side Inter since a 2005 move from Real Madrid. Prior to his time in the Spanish capital, Samuel spent four years with Italian team Roma after spells in his homeland at first Newell’s Old Boys and then Boca Juniors.

The centre-back has made 22 appearances for Inter this season, 17 of them coming in the league, and the side coached by former Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri currently lie in seventh, 15 points off league leaders and city rivals Milan.
