Guzan to be offered new Aston Villa contract
Goalkeeper Brad Guzan is to be offered a new contract at Aston Villa, according to the Independent, although manager Alex McLeish says he would understand if the United States international moves on.

Guzan has been used mostly as understudy to Shay Given this season, making only nine appearances. McLeish said: “I understand the dilemma he is facing but…Shay is 35 now and, when Brad has come in, he has proved himself to be a Premier League keeper.” Guzan deputised for Given while the Republic of Ireland international was injured throughout December and early Janaury, making seven league appearances and conceding nine goals. With Guzan in position Villa won two, drew one and lost four.
The 27-year-old Guzan joined Villa from Chivas USA, the Major League Soccer affiliate of Mexico’s Chivas Guadalajara. Originally back-up to Brad Friedel, when Guzan’s compatriot joined Tottenham Hotspur this summer McLeish turned to Given, signed from Manchester City, rather than promote Guzan. In total Guzan has made 19 appearances for Villa, mostly in the League Cup and FA Cup, and spent played 16 times for Hull City during a loan spell between December 2010 and April 2011.
