Drogba confident of Chelsea turn-around

Tuesday 13 March 2012

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba believes the Blues have enough quality to progress through to the Champions League quarter-finals at the expense of Napoli, The Daily Mail reports.

The Blues were beaten 3-1 by the Italian side in the first leg last month, but Drogba believes his side can take inspiration from Arsenal’s recent attempt against AC Milan. The Gunners were 4-0 behind going into their second leg, but nearly qualified with a 3-0 win at the Emirates Stadium. Chelsea can win 2-0 and progress due to away goals, so Drogba is confident in the squad’s ability and the character of the side. Despite Chelsea losing their last five knockout games on home soil, Roberto di Matteo’s appointment as interim manager seems to have galvanised the club and Drogba believes they have faced more challenges in the past.

Drogba said: “We can do it because we have the players, attitude and the character. We have done more difficult things in the past.”

Drogba’s teammate Ramires is also confident of a victory and has harked back to December 2011, when the Blues faced Newcastle, Valencia and Manchester City in desperate need of points. Chelsea won all three of those games and the Brazilian midfielder believes his side have all the capabilities to go on and win against Napoli on Wednesday.

Ramires said: “We had our opportunities to score in Naples and we didn’t take them, but I think if we play well, we will have lots more chances to score at home – especially with the support of our fans. I don’t think it’s too difficult to score two goals – or maybe even more – at home, so that makes me confident”.
