Redknapp tells Szczesny to focus on playing

Saturday 17 March 2012

Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has advised Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny to concentrate on playing rather than attacking other clubs in the media, Yahoo Sports has reported.

Szczesny had been quoted as saying he was "coming to get Tottenham" as the Gunners chase down Spurs in the race for third place in the Premier League. But Redknapp believes Szczesny would be best served by speaking less and playing more.

Redknapp said: "Szczesny says he is coming to get Tottenham? Oh yeah, yeah, he does have a lot to say Szczesny, doesn't he? He is a fantastic goalie, but he should just keep doing what he does."

Tottenham currently hold a one-point lead over Arsenal having been defeated in the North London derby in late February. Neither side is in Premier League action this weekend, with Spurs instead facing Bolton Wanderers in the FA Cup and Arsenal, eliminated from the competition by Sunderland, seeing their league fixture postponed.

When the league programme does resume in midweek Tottenham will host Stoke City while Arsenal travel to Everton, who defeated Spurs a week ago at Goodison Park. Tottenham have lost their last three league games, giving up a wide points advantage on Arsenal in the process, as the battle for third place and with it guaranteed entry into the Champions League group stages goes on.
