Dalglish relishing Merseyside derby FA Cup semi-final

By Andrew Tuft

Monday 19 March 2012

Kenny Dalglish has welcomed the prospect of an all-Merseyside FA Cup semi-final, but warned Everton face a difficult task in defeating Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, the Daily Mail has revealed.

The Liverpool manager said: "Merseyside will be hoping Everton get through and they can all have a day out again but it is a really difficult place to go and get a result at Sunderland."

Liverpool progressed to the Wembley date safely with a 2-1 victory over Stoke City but Everton could only draw 1-1 with Martin O’Neill’s Black Cats at Goodison Park on Saturday. A long-range Phil Bardsley drive put the Mackems in front in the first-half, only for Tim Cahill to head Everton level before the break after diverting Nikica Jelavic’s original headed effort. Earlier in the season Sunderland and Everton drew in the North East, again 1-1, after a Leighton Baines penalty restored parity following Jack Colback’s opener.

Should Everton reach their second FA Cup semi-final in three years it will be the first time the Blues and the Reds of Merseyside have met at Wembley since 1989, when Liverpool triumphed to win the FA Cup.
