Chelsea captain Terry to return for Tottenham match

Friday 23 March 2012

John Terry is set to return to the Chelsea team to play Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday in a fixture that will do much to decide the Blues’ Champions League future, the Daily Mirror has claimed.

Terry missed the midweek defeat by Manchester City after suffering calf cramps, and did not play against Leicester City in the FA Cup last weekend either after coming off during extra-time against Napoli in the Champions League in the previous game.

The appearance against the Serie A side was only Terry’s second since a knee injury ruled the skipper out of action in late January. Terry was on target against Napoli as Chelsea won 4-1 on the night and 5-4 on aggregate, overturning a 3-1 deficit from the first leg.

Chelsea resume Champions League action early next week when Roberto Di Matteo’s side face Portuguese club Benfica at Benfica’s Stadium of Light home. Chelsea are however keen to overtake Tottenham in the Premier League table to ensure they will participate in the Champions League next season.
