Villas-Boas departure gives Torres new Chelsea life, claims agent

Friday 30 March 2012

The sacking of Andre Villas-Boas by Chelsea means Fernando Torres may stay at Stamford Bridge this summer, ClubCall have claimed, with the player’s agent admitting the departure of the Portuguese has changed Torres’ circumstances.

Antonio Sanz, Torres’ representative, has been widely quoted as saying: “We'll evaluate his future in the coming months. Fernando has another four years on his contract at Chelsea and the situation there has changed for him.

Villas-Boas was dispensed with by Roman Abramovich in early March after overseeing a campaign that left Chelsea outside of the Champions League qualification places in the Premier League and facing an uncertain future against Napoli in this year’s competition.

The now former manager had led his side to a 3-0 defeat in Napoli’s San Paolo stadium, only for Roberto Di Matteo, formerly Villas-Boas’ assistant but installed as Chelsea’s interim manager after Villas-Boas’ sacking, to engineer a 5-4 aggregate victory.

Abramovich only appointed Villas-Boas in June 2011 having removed Carlo Ancelotti from Stamford Bridge at the end of the 2010-11 season, when the former Milan Coach could only deliver a second placed finish.
