Wenger calls for quicker England appointment

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has urged the FA to appoint a new England manager as soon as possible, adding that the delay is understandable as the governing body is reluctant to disrupt a club’s Premier League season by poaching their manager, the Daily Mail has reported.

Wenger’s North London rival Harry Redknapp was immediately installed as the favourite to replace Fabio Capello when the Italian resigned in February but the Mail confirms the FA will wait until May to approach their preferred candidate, as, if he is currently employed, they do not want to harm his club’s season.

The newspaper quotes Wenger as saying: “They are now in a difficult situation and the sooner they sort it out, the better it is, but…they do not want to interfere with what is going on in the Premier League. You can understand that.

Redknapp and West Bromwich Albion manager Roy Hodgson are two of the managers who have been linked with the post, with the former still intent of guiding Tottenham back to the Champions League and the latter concentrating on delivering a top half finish for the Midlands side.
