Kalou targets central role at Chelsea as Milan show interest
Salomon Kalou wants to feature more often in the centre of Chelsea’s attack than his usual wide role if he is to sign a new contract to stay at Stamford Bridge, according to the Daily Mail, who add that Italian side Milan are interested in the Ivory Coast international whose contract is due to expire this summer.
Kalou scored the only goal of the game as Chelsea defeated Benfica in the Champions League this week, nabbing a vital away goal thanks to a Fernando Torres cross. The Mail reports that if Kalou was to have it his way, he would be used as the central point of the Blues’ forward play more often and not consigned to a role on the periphery of the attack.
However, the newspaper notes that Daniel Sturridge is believed to harbour similar feelings while Chelsea can already call on the services of Torres, Didier Drogba and Romelu Lukaku, each a more orthodox centre-forward than Sturridge or Kalou.
If Chelsea do not acquiesce to Kalou’s request, the Mail notes he could swap the Premier League for Serie A this summer, with Milan the favourites for his signature.
