Record fee needed for Arsenal to sign M’Vila

Arsene Wenger has been warned he will have to break Arsenal’s transfer record to sign Yann M’Vila from Rennes after the Ligue 1 side told the Gunners manager the France international can leave this summer but only for the right price, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The Telegraph puts the sum needed to bring M’Vila to the Premier League at £17m, slightly over the £15m Arsenal paid for Andrei Arshavin. M’Vila signed a new contract at Rennes last summer on the understanding he would be allowed to leave if a substantial offer came in after Arsenal were initially interested in signing the midfielder a year ago. The move never materialised but indications are that Wenger will try again.

However, Wenger is said to have other irons in the fire, with Anderlecht captain and midfielder Lucas Biglia also a possibility. It has also been widely reported that Arsenal have tied up a deal to sign Germany international forward Lukas Podolski, while the Telegraph says Arsenal also want to bring in Ajax’s Belgium international Jan Vertonghen to strengthen their defence.
