Tottenham plan Ramirez summer signing

Tuesday 03 April 2012

Tottenham are attempting to make their first summer signing an Ecuadorian left back who has been dubbed the ‘new Roberto Carlos’, The Daily Mail reports.

Christian Ramirez plays for Independiente Jose Teran in his native Ecuador and earned rave reviews at last year’s Under 17 World Cup. The 17 year old has reportedly travelled to London for talks with Spurs, but the North London side cannot make a move for Ramirez until he turns 18 in August. Tottenham are looking towards the future with Ramirez’s signing and Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has earmarked the 17 year old as a replacement for Benoit Assou-Ekotto.

Spurs are targeting South America as their transfer targets for the summer and are reportedly interested in Argentinian defender Julian Velazquez. The Argentinian international is valued at £4m by Independiente and Spurs have expressed an interest in the 21 year old defender.

Another transfer target for the North London side is Santos playmaker Ganso, who played an April Fools trick on Santos fans by declaring he was leaving the club on his Twitter page. The 22 year old is highly sought after and Tottenham fans would have thought Ganso could be moving to North London, but the Santos playmaker plans to remain in Brazil for a long time.
