Arsenal face competition for Mbia signature

ClubCall has reported that Arsenal are just one of a number of teams interested in signing Cameroon midfielder Stephane Mbia from Marseille. Serie A side Inter are believed to be one of the other interested parties.

Mbia is primarily a defensive midfielder but has played in the centre of defence before and, with heavily-reported interest from Arsenal in Rennes defensive midfielder Yann M’Vila, it appears Arsene Wenger intends to strengthen his side’s spine this summer. Mbia is a former Rennes player, moving to Marseille in 2009. Mbia cost Marseille around £10m.

An international teammate of Arsenal’s Alex Song and Tottenham Hotspur’s Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Mbia made his Cameroon bow in 2005, playing at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana and the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

The 25-year-old is also reportedly on the wish list of Inter, who, with their third Coach in charge this season, are planning a summer re-building programme of which Mbia could form part.
