Injury-hit Arsenal midfielder Diaby thanks Wenger for support

Friday 06 April 2012

Abou Diaby, the Arsenal midfielder who has played less than an hour of first team football this season, has thanked Arsene Wenger for continuing to have faith in him despite the player’s chronic injury problems, the Daily Mail has reported.

Diaby has featured in the Arsenal first team for only 54 minutes in the entirety of the current campaign, playing the final five minutes plus injury time against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, just over half an hour in the Premier League against Fulham and 18 minutes against Liverpool, where Diaby was introduced in place of Mikel Arteta, only to be taken off himself for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Both of Diaby’s first two appearances for Arsenal came in November, with the brief outing against Liverpool months later in March. Diaby suffered a foot injury in pre-season while two hamstring strains have limited the Frenchman’s contribution since then. Diaby, who joined Arsenal in 2006, said: “It is a big motivation for me that the boss said about me [being a "massive" player]. I want to be thankful to him and show him that he is right.
