Wenger praises persistent Man Utd
Arsene Wenger has praised Manchester United for their perseverance in winning so many games with late goals, insisting that if Sir Alex Ferguson’s side do beat Manchester City to the Premier League title, those goals scored in the dying minutes will have been key to their success, the Guardian has reported.
Wenger pointed to United’s win over Blackburn Rovers on Monday, where the game was goalless heading in to the final 15 minutes. Wenger said: “…on Monday night against Blackburn, you thought: ‘They can only win it now because they know how to deal with the money time.’ That means the last 15 minutes.” United duly scored twice in the final 10 minutes of the match, first through winger Antonio Valencia and then substitute Ashley Young, to extend their lead over Manchester City at the top of the table to five points with seven games remaining.
Arsenal this weekend host City at the Emirates Stadium, offering Wenger the chance to dent Roberto Mancini’s title challenge further. Earlier in the season however City scraped a 1-0 win over Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium through David Silva’s second-half strike.
