Redknapp unworried by Bendtner form

Saturday 07 April 2012

Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp is not concerned by the form of Sunderland’s on-loan Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner ahead of Spurs’ Premier League meeting with Martin O’Neill’s Black Cats, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Bendtner has scored four goals in his last five league outings and, if he continues that record against Tottenham on Saturday, could put his parent club firmly in the driving seat to finish third and qualify directly for the Champions League. But Tottenham boss Redknapp has claimed if Bendtner was the fearsome prospect his recent scoring record suggests, he would still be playing for Arsenal.

Despite conceding that on his day, Bendtner can be a handful for any Premier League team, Redknapp said: “If Arsene Wenger thought he was that good, he wouldn’t let him go out on loan, would he? He’s not over-loaded with strikers at Arsenal. Obviously he thought it was time to get him out of there.

Bendtner spent six years at Arsenal before moving on loan to Sunderland last summer, scoring 43 goals in 157 appearances. In total this season, Bendtner has hit seven goals in 26 games for the Mackems.
