Wenger revels in Arsenal win over Man City
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revelled in the Gunners’ 1-0 victory over Manchester City by suggesting that Roberto Mancini will swoop for some of his victorious players, Sporting Life has reported.
Wenger, speaking tongue-in-cheek after the match, is quoted as saying: “Maybe now [City] will want some others,” after being asked if the win was more satisfying because of the amount of former Arsenal players in the City ranks. Left-back Gael Clichy and midfielder Samir Nasri both started the match, while City also have centre-back Kolo Toure in their squad, striker Emmanuel Adebayor out on loan at Tottenham Hotspur and former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira in an executive position. City’s first team coach, David Platt, is another ex-Arsenal player.
City have also been strongly linked with a move for Arsenal’s current skipper Robin van Persie, the Netherlands international whose contract at the Emirates Stadium is due to expire in 2013. Arsenal sold Nasri to City last summer after the France midfielder made it clear he would not be signing a new deal at the Emirates Stadium after reaching the same amount of remaining time on his contract as van Persie will have this summer.
