Arsenal could miss out on Giroud

Arsenal will fail to lure French striker Olivier Giroud to Emirates Stadium this summer, according to the sporting director of Marseille, who are also after his signature.

ESPN claim that the free-scoring forward looks set to remain with high-flying Montpellier as he would like to play for them in the Champions League next season. As things stand, Montpellier sit at the top of the French league table, three points ahead of big-spending Paris Saint-Germain, with just seven games to go.

Giroud, who is also a full French international, has been in superb form this season and is currently topping the Ligue 1 goalscorers chart with 19 goals. The 25-year-old has also claimed eight assists in the league this term in 29 appearances.

This excellent form has seen Giroud’s stock rise across Europe and Arsene Wenger is thought to be tracking the striker closely as he looks to bolster his attacking options in the summer.
