Arsenal cannot underestimate Wigan, warns Rosicky

By Andrew Tuft

Monday 16 April 2012

Arsenal midfielder Tomas Rosicky has warned his Gunners teammates that they cannot underestimate Wigan Athletic, their opponents on Monday evening, the Guardian has reported.

In their last Premier League match the Latics shocked Manchester United, and Rosicky has said the performance of Roberto Martinez’s side in defeating the defending champions has not gone unnoticed at the Emirates Stadium. He added: “We saw Wigan beat Manchester United last Wednesday, so that's an indication that it will be a tough test for us. We'll have to be on top of our game to win, no doubt about it.” Rosicky also noted that Arsenal were desperate to avoid a repeat of the last time they faced a side threatened with relegation, Queens Park Rangers, who defeated the Gunners 2-1.

Arsenal go into the match in third place, five points clear of Tottenham Hotspur. The two sides have currently played the same number of games although Arsenal will move to 34 to Spurs’ 33 after the Wigan fixture. While both third and fourth place will guarantee participation in next season’s Champions League third place is desired by both North London clubs as it provides a route directly into the group stage, avoiding a potentially tricky play-off.
