Monday 16 April 2012

Frank Lampard has insisted Chelsea can use their FA Cup semi-final victory over Tottenham Hotspur as the springboard to beating Barcelona in the same stage of the Champions League, ESPN has reported.

Lampard, who scored a spectacular free-kick to make the score 4-1 with less than 10 minutes remaining in the match on Sunday evening, said the performance of the Chelsea players against their London rivals can give the squad the boost needed to take on the Champions League holders. Lampard added: “It gives us confidence. We need to take that into the Champions League games and all the rest of our league games.

As well as reaching the final of the FA Cup and the semi-final of the Champions League, Chelsea are in the hunt for a top four Premier League finish to ensure they qualify for next year’s Champions League. If Roberto Di Matteo’s side do not crack the top four of the table they will have to win the Champions League outright this season in order to appear in next year’s edition.
