Arsenal captain van Persie amongst the contenders for PFA Player of the Year Award
Robin van Persie has been named as one of six Premier League players with a chance of winning the PFA Player of the Year award, Yahoo Sports has reported.
The Arsenal captain is joined on the shortlist by Manchester City trio Joe Hart, David Silva and Sergio Aguero, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Scott Parker and Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney. The current holder of the award is Tottenham’s Wales international winger Gareth Bale.
The article adds that van Persie is expected to win the award as voted by his peers after a season that has seen the Netherlands international score 34 times for his club in 44 appearances, including spectacular volleys against Liverpool and Everton. Van Persie has also captained Arsenal to third in the Premier League after a strong run of form in the New Year that took the Gunners from seventh in the table into the division’s top three.
