Balotelli rejects talk of Manchester City departure

Wednesday 18 April 2012

Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli has no intention of leaving the Etihad Stadium this summer, after telling reporters in Italy he is fed up of transfer gossip continually linking him with both Milan clubs, the Independent has said.

After Balotelli was sent off against Arsenal Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini appeared to suggest the 21-year-old’s time at the club was at an end, but Balotelli says he and the manager have cleared the air. He added: “My future? Why do you always talk about Inter and Milan for me? I’m at City and I have no intention of changing the shirt. [Mancini] feared a long ban for me so he spoke about me with some harsh words. But we have explained things to each other. I know he believes in me, as he always has done.

Despite being sent off twice this season, first in 1-1 draw with Liverpool and then against the Gunners, Balotelli has netted 17 times in 31 City appearances, leaving him the club’s third-highest scorer, behind Sergio Aguero, who has 28 goals, and Edin Dzeko, who has netted on 18 occasions. Balotelli joined City from Inter in 2010 for a £24m fee, making 28 appearances in his first season but racking up more yellow cards than goals, receiving 11 cautions and finding the 10 times.
