Ferguson ready for biggest derby of his Manchester United career

By Andrew Tuft

Monday 23 April 2012

Sir Alex Ferguson has described the forthcoming Manchester derby as the most important of his time as Manchester United manager, as the champions go to Manchester City in what could prove to be a Premier League title decider, the BBC has reported.

Speaking after United dropped a two-goal lead to draw 4-4 with Everton at Old Trafford, allowing City to close the gap between the sides to three points with a 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, Ferguson did little to dampen down the hype surrounding the derby, to be played next Monday evening. He said: “It’s a derby of amazing proportions. It is probably the most important derby game in my time.

If United defeat City at City’s own Etihad Stadium they would take a six-point lead into the final two games of the season, almost but not quite wrapping up their 20th title. If City were to be victorious, however, then Roberto Mancini’s side would top the table on goal difference with two games to go.
