Arsenal winger Walcott to be fit for Euro 2012

Wednesday 25 April 2012

Arsenal winger Theo Walcott is expected to be fit for Euro 2012 despite a hamstring injury ruling him out of the Gunners’ remaining Premier League fixtures, the Guardian has reported.

Walcott suffered the injury against Chelsea but scans have confirmed the problem, in Walcott’s left hamstring, should only prevent the former Southampton forward from playing over the next three weeks, leaving Walcott available to take part in Euro 2012, if selected.

England’s first match in the competition takes place against France on June 11 in Donetsk, Ukraine. Before then the Three Lions have a series of warm-up friendlies, first against Norway on May 26, then Belgium on June 2.

Walcott made his England debut in May 2006 and was included by then-manager Sven-Goran Eriksson in the squad to travel to that year’s World Cup in Germany, but failed to make an appearance in the tournament. Walcott was left out of England’s squad to go to World Cup 2010 by Fabio Capello despite scoring a hat-trick in a crucial 4-1 qualification victory away to Croatia.
