Dalglish in FA Cup final boost as Liverpool captain Gerrard returns to fitness
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard will be fit to play for the Reds this weekend, handing manager Kenny Dalglish a boost ahead of the FA Cup final, the Liverpool Daily Post has reported.
Gerrard sat out Liverpool’s 1-0 defeat at Anfield by West Bromwich Albion on Sunday with a hamstring injury suffered in the FA Cup semi-final victory over Everton. It was originally feared the problem would keep Gerrard out for the duration of the season, the newspaper adds, but Dalglish rejected such suggestions and Gerrard is now expected to be included in the squad to travel to Norwich City this weekend.
The 31-year-old has made 26 appearances for Liverpool this season, scoring eight goals, including playing in the first match between Liverpool and Norwich of the campaign, a 1-1 draw at Anfield in late October. Craig Bellamy put Liverpool in front on the stroke of half-time but a string of saves from Canaries’ goalkeeper John Ruddy prevented the advantage being extended, before Norwich substitute Grant Holt levelled the scores after an hour. Ruddy then held firm for the remainder of the match to frustrate Dalglish’s side.
