Chelsea winger Malouda to fight for Champions League final place

Thursday 26 April 2012

Chelsea winger Florent Malouda has said he will work hard to earn a place in Roberto Di Matteo’s team to face Bayern Munich in the Champions League final, the Daily Mail reports, but the France international added that he sees his future away from Stamford Bridge.

Malouda joined Chelsea from Lyon in 2007 and has thus far made 224 appearances for the Blues, scoring 44 goals, including 15 in the 2010-11 season to finish the club’s top scorer. This year, however, Malouda has been used more as a squad player, and says that while he respects the manager’s decisions, he is not content at watching from the side lines.

The 31-year-old went on: “This year I experienced quarter-finals from the stands, a semi-final on the bench, which is the first time for me. I want to play in finals and win them…I’m not someone who likes to complain. I’ll see what the Coach wants to do.

Malouda has a year remaining on his Chelsea contract and the Mail notes he has been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain, the French club fuelled by petrodollars and the current employers of former Chelsea Coach Carlo Ancelotti, and Malouda revealed that while there has been contact between player and club, nothing has been decided.
