Mancini admits Balotelli could return to Manchester City derby squad

Friday 27 April 2012

Roberto Mancini has suggested that wayward striker Mario Balotelli could be recalled to the Manchester City squad for the derby match against Manchester United, the BBC has reported.

The match between the two clubs could go a long way to deciding the whether the Premier League title will remain at Old Trafford or cross the city to reside at the Etihad Stadium, as United currently lead the table by three points from City, but a City win on Monday evening would take them top of the pile on goal difference with two games to play.

Mancini had previously said he would not select Balotelli again this season after the Italian was sent off during the defeat to Arsenal, a loss that left City eight points behind United. But the City manager has this week appeared to soften his stance on Balotelli, suggesting that players of that ilk are the ones who win titles.

He said: “Despite some stupid things he has done, Mario has done some important things, like his double striker at Old Trafford this season. With him anything is possible.
