Dalglish sees Liverpool future for Aquilani

Friday 27 April 2012

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has said misfit midfielder Alberto Aquilani could have a future at Anfield if the player’s loan spell with Milan does not turn into more than a temporary move, the Independent has reported.

A clause in the loan contract between Liverpool and Milan for Aquilani says a £6m transfer will automatically go through if the Italian plays 25 games for the Serie A side. Aquilani has made 22 appearances this season but has been a substitute for the last four games, failing to get off the bench in Milan’s midweek fixture. With only five games of the season remaining it is not clear if Milan want to make the arrangement permanent.

Dalglish said: “If [Milan] don’t activate the clause [Aquilani] will be back here. At the end of the day if they don’t want him then he’ll come back here as he’s our player.

Aquilani joined Liverpool from Roma in 2009 for a fee the Independent puts at £16m. But in an injury-hit spell on Merseyside the 27-year-old has made only 28 appearances, and had to wait until October 2009 to make his Liverpool debut. Aquilani has also spent time on loan at Juventus.
