Chelsea boss Di Matteo hopes for uneventful QPR match
Chelsea interim manager Roberto Di Matteo has revealed he hopes the Blues’ Premier League meeting with Queens Park Rangers passes off without incident, the Guardian has reported.
The fixture between Chelsea and QPR is surrounded by controversy due to the legal action involving Chelsea captain John Terry and R’s defender Anton Ferdinand. The Stamford Bridge crowd is expected to emphatically signal their support for Terry and the newspaper notes that Ferdinand has already admitted he believes he will receive plenty of ‘stick’ during the contest. The defender added that there was already a fervent rivalry between the two sides and the legal issue between Ferdinand and Terry will only exacerbate matters.
Di Matteo however has said he does not expect there to be any more than full-throated support for Terry and his teammates from the supporters. “All our fans will support the team, [Terry] is part of the team and I have no concerns,” the Italian said. The pre-match handshake between the sides has been cancelled by the Premier League on legal advice after it was thought it would not be wise for two parties involved in a legal issue to either be seen publicly shaking hands or snubbing each other.
