Sagna insists Stoke point could be valuable

Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna is happy with a draw at the Britannia Stadium and believes that their point against Stoke is important, Sky Sports reports.

The Gunners had Robin van Persie to thank for getting them a point against the Potters and that draw leaves them four points clear of nearest rivals Newcastle, who were beaten 4-0 by Wigan at the DW Stadium. Sagna believes the physical element Stoke offer was dealt with by Arsenal and the point is much-needed for the Gunners to push on and secure Champions League football next season.

Sagna said: “It was very important because it’s never easy to get some points here, but today it might be an important point. Some teams are behind us, but we know we have our destiny in our hands. We’ve worked a lot to come back in third place and we want to stay and qualify straight away.”

Newcastle still have a game in hand and can close the gap to the Gunners, but Arsenal have a favourable run-in with a home game against Norwich and West Brom away on the final day. Arsene Wenger’s side have recovered from their stuttering start and have lost just two games in their last 14 Premier League outings to surge into third.
