Luiz in line for Chelsea return in FA Cup final

Tuesday 01 May 2012

The defensive problems plaguing interim Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo ahead of the club’s two finals this month look to have eased with the news David Luiz could fit to return to action in this weekend’s FA Cup final, the Daily Mail has reported.

While the Brazilian is not guaranteed to be fit to play Liverpool at Wembley the newspaper reveals that Di Matteo is ‘increasingly confident’ he will have Luiz at his disposal on Saturday. Luiz was injured during the semi-final victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the same competition.

With Gary Cahill also struggling for fitness the return of Luiz comes at an opportune time. Branislav Ivanovic has only just returned from a domestic suspension and will miss the Champions League final after picking up a yellow card in the semi-final win over Barcelona, while John Terry is also suspended from the final after a straight red in the Nou Camp and has been playing with a rib injury.
