Liverpool vs Fulham - Match preview and team news

By A Different League staff

Tuesday 01 May 2012

On the day Roy Hodgson is named England manager, two of his former clubs meet tonight, when Liverpool welcome Fulham to Anfield.

The two sides have more than a previous manager in common as they occupy eighth and ninth in the Premier League, only three points separating Liverpool from their guests one place below.

Liverpool come into the game on the back of a 3-0 away win over Norwich, thanks to a hat-trick from Luis Suarez - the game was their third win in four, in all competitions, however their home league form does not make such positive reading, with one win the last four, including defeats to Wigan Athletic and West Brom.

Fulham ended a run of three wins in four, and a draw with Chelsea, last week when they fell 4-0 away to Everton - away wins have been hard to come by for Martin Jol’s men, with just two in the last eight games, and defeats in all the other six.

Andy Carroll will return to the Liverpool squad following a groin injury, but the Reds will be without long-term absentees Charlie Adam and Lucas Leiva. For Fulham, Andy Johnson is likely to miss out due to an adductor injury, along with fellow striker Bryan Ruiz, meaning a lone role up front for Russian Pavel Pogrebnyak.
