Thursday 03 May 2012

Lukas Podolski has vowed to fire Arsenal to a first trophy since 2005 once his £11m move to the Emirates Stadium is completed at the end of the season, the Daily Mail has reported.

Podolski is no stranger to silverware, having won the Bundesliga second division with Koln in 2004-05, the German version of the League Cup in 2007, the German Cup in 2007-08, the same season in which he claimed a Bundesliga winners’ medal, the latter three honours coming as a Bayern Munich player.

Internationally Podolski has also won a string of individual awards, being named the Best Young Player at the 2006 World Cup, named as part of the Team of the Tournament at Euro 2008 and taking home the prize for being second-highest scorer, the Silver Boot, at the same competition. Germany, with Podolski a key part of the side, were runners-up to Spain in that tournament.

The 26-year-old said: “The target must be to win titles over the next couple of years. That is a given when you join a club like Arsenal, and I believe I can help make it happen.
