Liverpool lack fire power, says Molby

The goal scoring threat of Liverpool has been criticised by former Reds midfielder Jan Molby on the eve of the FA Cup final. Molby told the BBC that Kenny Dalglish’s side are in need of a number of additions this summer, including a new striker.

That is despite Dalglish spending over £50m on Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez, who together have scored 25 goals - 10 fewer than Robin van Persie has managed on his own in all competitions for Arsenal. Molby however did not lay the blame for Liverpool’s lack of goals solely at the feet of the forwards, instead insisting that it is a problem that extends to other areas of the pitch.

They need wide men who can bring us real quality, a real playmaker in midfield and of course, importantly, and depending on how much money is available, a goal scorer,” Molby said.

Molby played for Liverpool between 1984 and 1996, joining the Merseyside club from Ajax and eventually departing for Swansea City. In that period Molby played more than 200 times for Liverpool and won a host of trophies, including the league title in 1985-86 and 1989-90 and the FA Cup in 1985-86 and 1991-92, as well as appearing 33 times for Denmark.
