Liverpool goalkeeper Reina blames Chelsea for poor Torres form
Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has blamed Chelsea for the struggles of his international teammate Fernando Torres since the striker moved from Anfield to Stamford Bridge in January 2011, the Independent has reported.
The two sides are set to meet in Saturday’s FA Cup final and Reina has said on the eve of the match that Torres never had the support of his new club when the goals dried up. Torres has scored four goals in his last three games but altogether since moving to London has only 12 goals in 64 games, including a barren spell stretching from October 2011 to March 2012.
Reina added that he felt his form had been poor at times this season, but was more confident he could recover because of the backing of his teammates and others at Liverpool, something not made available to Torres at Chelsea.
He continued: “The different between Fernando and myself is that I have had the confidence of the people at my club all the time…it is much easier to get over your mistakes when you know you have the confidence of your manager and your teammates.” Reina added that former Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas appeared from afar to be particularly at fault in his handling of Torres.
