Arsenal to battle Liverpool for Dempsey signing

Monday 07 May 2012

Clint Dempsey will be a wanted man this summer as Arsenal and Liverpool prepare to fight it out for the signing of the Fulham attacker, the Daily Mail has reported.

Dempsey, 29, has hesitated over signing a new three-year contract to remain at Craven Cottage, with the United States international’s delay igniting interest from the Emirates Stadium and Anfield as Fulham could be tempted to cash in on the player this summer, rather than risk losing him for nothing in 2013 when his current contract expires.

After Dempsey scored his 23rd goal of the season in Fulham’s 2-1 win over Sunderland on Sunday Cottagers manager Martin Jol declined to comment on the future of the forward. Combined with Dempsey’s as yet unsigned contract, Jol’s silence is said by the Mail to have increased interest in the player.

Dempsey joined Fulham in 2007 from New England Revolution and has made 227 appearances for the West London side, scoring 60 goals in the process. Dempsey also has 83 international caps and 25 goals to his name.
