Newcastle keen on Boilesen

Tuesday 08 May 2012

Newcastle are preparing a bid for Ajax left-back Nicolai Boilesen, as they look to sign a player who turned them down when he was 17, The Daily Mail reports.

The Dane spent a week in the North-East and also trained with Manchester United while he was at Danish side Brondby. Instead of the Premier League, Boilesen chose Ajax and developed into one of the most promising full-backs in Europe. However, his progress was hampered after tearing his right hamstring in September and was ruled out for five months.

Boilesen suffered a relapse which ruled him out of Ajax’s title celebrations and Newcastle boss Alan Pardew had travelled to watch the 20 year old. Boilesen is a doubt for Euro 2012 with Denmark and if he does not travel to Poland and Ukraine, Newcastle could be keen on making a cheap move for the Ajax defender.

Pardew believes that a £5m offer will be acceptable, once Boilesen recovers from the problem, and with Newcastle looking to get into the Champions League, the Dane may be open to a move. Boilesen’s contract runs until next summer and has already been courted by United, Chelsea and Spanish giants Barcelona, so Newcastle will be keen to make the move quickly.
