Arsenal considering move for Swansea goalkeeper Vorm

Wednesday 09 May 2012

Arsenal may tempt Swansea City into selling goalkeeper Michel Vorm as Arsene Wenger looks for competition for first choice Wojciech Szczesny, the Daily Mail has reported.

Vorm joined Swansea from FC Utrecht in his native Netherlands in August 2011 for a fee of £1.5m, and the Mail believes Wenger has targeted the 28-year-old as part of his new-look goalkeeping roster for next season. Szczesny will remain first choice but with Manuel Almunia to leave the club when his contract expires, Wenger wants Vorm as experienced back up for Szczesny.

Lukas Fabianski will also be allowed to leave the Emirates Stadium as he searches for first team football, creating two spaces in Arsenal’s squad for goalkeepers. The newspaper continues that one of the gaps will be filled by 19-year-old Damien Martinez, with the other reserved for Vorm.

Vorm has made 36 appearances for Swansea this season, conceding 49 goals as the Welsh side sealed a mid-table finish in their debut Premier League campaign. With one game still to play Brendan Rodgers’ side are 12th in the table, unable to finish higher than 11th but also no lower than 15th.
